The Cycling Uniform of The Colombian Team Creates Controversy

The Colombian cycling team (women’s team) has been able to attract a lot of attention due to their cycling uniform. During the Tour of Tuscany, six cyclists of the Bogota Humana Team were spotted wearing yellow and red color uniform. This kit also had a panel (flesh-colored one) extending from the torso to the thighs. It is not clear as to whether the team will utilize the same uniform for the championships taking place in Spain next week.

On the internet, the photographs of the women cyclists wearing this uniform went viral.

The photos were posted by Hilary Evans on twitter who said that the kit was an actual disaster. After that the photos were retweeted to get the attention of UCI (International Cycling Union).

UCI’s president- Brian Cookson is of the opinion that the uniforms worn by the Bogota Humana Team are unacceptable. UCI is determined to ensure that the cycling team realizes its responsibilities. Cookson tweeted saying that UCI will look into the matter and see what can be done. Most of the observers are also claiming that this cycling kit is a disaster, wrong and rude. However, there are some supporters who are defending this uniform along with the cyclist who have worn it.

A cycling journalist from Colombia- Klaus Bellon said that the kit has been designed by a female rider and was approved by the entire team. The Colombian team has been wearing the kit for many months now.

Many well-known riders such as Nicole Cooke (former World Road Race, Olympic and Commonwealth champion) criticized the ‘nude’ looking uniform on twitter.

However, it seems that not only the women’s team but also the Colombian men’s team are going to sport a similar kind of cycling kit because UltimoKilometro tweeted a snap of the men’s team wearing a uniform that features a strip (flesh-colored one) covering their pelvic area.
